DVD to .iso

Using Windows 8 I have tried several copying programs such as Alcohol, Imgbrn, and Aiseesoft DVD copy (and others). I'm putting some homemade DVDs onto a portable hard drive. The problem is that often about 3/4 the way through, read errors show up and the copying craps out - doesn't matter what speed is used. I am always able to cut and paste the missing files (using Windows Explorer) afterwards. Why would Windows Explorer copying be better in this situation. Can anyone recommend alternative software?
Thanks a lot!

I am using Ultra ISO and never have problem.
BTW, do you have any kind of Anti Virus running ? If so, disable it.

first check the quality of the disc. clean it. inspect for scratches. discs normally rot over time and become unreliable.

if you cannot make an ISO of the entire disc, just grab the actual movie files through the file explorer. that's all you really need. you can always reauthor more DVD's from the video files.

I use Ultra ISO 9.3 too. Lightweight and efficient.
