Can't run Apps with UAC turned off

What is the reason behind preventing me from starting an App if UAC is turned off? Is there any way around this other than turning UAC on again.

    Hello Rich,

Sorry, but there's not a way around this. UAC must be turned on for Store apps to work.

The issue behind this is that Store apps are hard coded to not be allowed to run elevated for security reasons. When you disable UAC, you basically will now have everything running elevated. Store apps will no longer work in an elevated account. This is also why Store apps will not work while signed in to the built-in "elevated" Administrator account.

Thanks Shawn. I can see the rationale behind it. I can always turn UAC on if I really, really, really want to try an App.

Hi Brink - Curious, I see you are running Windows 8 Enterprise as am I. I have UAC turned off and have no problems running Windows 8 apps that I've downloaded from the App Store. The only thing that may be different with our setups is I log into our AD domain at work instead of logging in with an MS account so there is no syncing.

    Hello Jeff,

Having UAC set to "Never Notify" using the settings below in Windows 8 will still let you use the Store and apps.

It's only when you disable UAC using the Vista/Windows 7 method by setting the EnableLUA registry DWORD to 0 (zero) or use an elevated account (ex: built-in Administrator) that the Store and apps will not work.
