Massive Data Loss - Windows Reset

I'm in panic. I've lost around 347GB of data in my wife's computer, including videos and photos of my son since his birth and lots of her academic stuff. I had to reset her Windows 8 installation and I think that I wrongly selected to reset all partitions. I can't figure out nothing else.

I downloaded EaseUS Data Recovery 5.8.5 and it's running for about 1 hour and already found over 40000 files. It indicates a remaining time of around 4 hours. I'm worried about it. Is that long time normal?

For a data that big, then yes. It is normal.
At least you don't choose clean drive thoroughly (equivalent to clean all in diskpart).

That happened once here as well and I found too many RAW files and "lost files" with 00001 000002....

Then I reformatted the drive (because I wasn't so pleased with the result) and then selected "Partition recovery".

As long as you don't write anything new to the drive (direct recover files after loss) it will normally find all of them back.

You can try complete recovery but with partition, it detected the whole partition and then I knew what was on it from the previews (files were kept the orinal names without any 0000001 recovery name).

You just have to make sure you see the names of the needed files/partitions (that's a good sign) and then select those because usually it can detect many irrelevant partitions (fat12 stuff and factory partitions).

I know from one-time experience because this thing happened here, make sure you have enough extra space for recovery (new disk) and good luck on this one.

    Thanks God !

All my files were recovered plus a lot of junk data. I needed two hours to put things in order again after recover. After all I decided to mirror important files to two different PCs.

    Good to hear that!

The positive thing is that this makes you stronger regarding files and backups and next time it probably won't happen again.

    Have a nice day.

As I recall you can recover 1gb at a time with the free version.

I have the pro version - seems pretty good.

I had to grab a non politically correct full version to save my day (better saying, night), but in that case the end justifies the means.

Now I'm seriously considering getting a legal pro version.

Backup to an external drive and keep it off-site. What if your house burned down?
