Hi,
I installed Win8 Pro & strugling to get to grips with it. Untill I learne it I keep chasing my tail to accomplish the simplest tasks.

Very kindly somebody gave me a lot of clues & instrauctions like the MS Shortcuts etc.

1. I can not find a way to multytask.

2. Of the 2 attached below, the first is of my IE10 in Win8 (Please excsuse the blue right panel is my second screen) & the second one of IE in XP.

I am very surprised & disilusioned when comparing the XP one(many years old & so flexible with its Favourites, scrolling, toolbars etc), to the one in WIN8 (presumably the latest technology) being so unyealding & premitive.

If anyone is using IE10 please check if mine looks the same as yours & tell me.

I cannot keep thinking that I may have messed up my w8 install.

Looks like you are accessing IE10 from the Start page; however, if you try accessing it from the desktop it should look different:

Start Page:

ie10-1.jpg

Desktop:

ie10-2.jpg

No doubt there is a moderate learning curve when jumping from XP to Win 8 but hang in there and you'll get through it eventually.

Good luck.

Kirk out!

Thank you,

unfortunately the only way to open IE is from START.

When I click the IE icon on the Taskbar the explorer does not open.

It produces only a flash of what could have been IE opening, or what could be ashadow of IE opening.

Does anyboddy know is wrong? ........thanks ......nick

Have you tried using a different browser like FireFox or Chrome. Try one of those in desktop mode. Then the next thing I would check is what software/program/app you have set a default.

It also looks like you have nothing pinned to your taskbar. The only thing I see is your file explorer. To pin an app to the task bar, in the start/metro screen, right click on a app, then select pin to taskbar.

IE 10 is listed as a feature in Windows 8 so maybe you could "uncheck it", reboot, and then recheck it again to see if it restores IE10 to defaults for you. Seee image below:

I would also make sure I have a functional alternative browser as well. Good luck.

If you make the settings shown in the picture, the IE start tile will always open the desktop style IE and not the tablet style IE (which can actually be some fun - see here).

Where is the the wheel you showed me?

Found it in CTRL panel>Network & Internet and changed it as you said, please see attached but, then could not open IE even from START, so reversed to where it was.

Anything else I could try, barring delete w8 & reinstall.

I dual boot it with XP & thinking of using "EasyEBD", is it a safe way of unistalling w8 from the dual boot? ....nick

I am not sure whether EasyBCD is up to speed with Windows 8. I have used it a lot on previous Windows systems and it always worked fine. See whether that will work:

Deleting Menu Entries - EasyBCD - NeoSmart Technologies Wiki

If it does work, then you can just delete the Windows 8 partition in Disk Management of XP. But keep the 200GB System partition. That most likely has your XP bootmgr.

And if you still want to use Windows 8 from time to time, I recommend to install it with VMware Player (free) with XP as the host:

Thanx but, this means you do not have any more ideas in repairing the IE?

With XP I used to run its CD & gave an option of "repair", win8 DVD does not seem to have it.

1. Is there any other way, than delete, to refresh or repair w8?

2. How does one multitask in w8? ......nick

I have no idea what you mean by 'repairing the IE". This is 3 generations after XP and things have changed. The IE is as you see it - WYSIWYG

That's a good option. Also check Opera which I really like.
