    Unable to Install SyncToy

I've been trying to install SyncToy by Microsoft.
When I try run setup it tells me it require .net framework 2.0.... I then click 'Yes' which brings my to the .net framework download. When I try to install .net 4.5 it tells me I already have it on my system.
    I don't get it.
    Am I missing something?

Go to Control Panel--Program and Features and on the left select "Turn Windows features on or off". this is where the .NET programs are installed.

I also got these two installed the same day I installed SyncToy but don't remember doing anything special to get them. Maybe if .NET 3.5 (includes 2.0) is activated through "features" then SyncToy will install these also.

No, SyncToy syncs files locally, whereas SkyDrive syncs to the cloud.

It's a shame that Microsoft stopped developing it further because in general it was pretty good and some of us refuse to use/trust cloud services. One of the things that let it down was that it didn't allow full drive syncing.

Although, the biggest problem with it was in Echo mode (syncing from source (left) to destination (right)). If you deleted something on the source, it wouldn't delete them on the destination when you synced (even with the checkbox ticked). So say you had a main drive as your master with photos on it and a second drive as backup, if you decided to delete some of the photos on the master, instead of also deleting them on the backup drive when you syncronised (and keeping them in sync), they would still be there, which made it confusing and un-useable as it wasn't a true sync.

In Windows features on of the .net Frameworks were unchecked.
    SyncToy installed fine, finally.

    Thanks,

I used SyncToy on Windows 7 for years and never had that problem using Echo Mode. Installed it on Windows 8 but have not set it up.

UPDATE: I found this on MS forum. I have always ran the "preview" first so maybe that is why I have not had this problem.

I have the same problem using "Echo". It's hit and miss as to whether files will be deleted on the right. I may have found a workaround, though. If I choose "Preview" before actually running the sync operation, it seems to delete the files on the right every time. At least it has for the last several weeks of doing it this way.
