ADOBE XI Reader stops working -- W8 x64

    Hi there
for some reason I can't read pdf documents any more with Adobe reader XI. Windows 8 x-64. The application just hangs --tried this on TWO different computers. Tried also different documents too.

Comes up with "Failed to connect to DDE server" whatever that is. Screen shot enclosed.

The documents read and print fine from my W2003 server VM so it's definitely a W8 problem. W2003 server is roughly equivalent to XP for code / version comparisons.

The Metro reader seems to be able to view the documents but that Bonkers application doesn't have any PRINT facilities.

I'm going to install FOXIT reader but Adobe seems to have gone a bit Bonkers with nthe latest version of the PDF reader.

    Cheers

    Hi there
As in another thread I've installed Foxit PDF reader which gives no trouble -- am uninstalling Adobe reader.

    Cheers

This won't be particularly helpful, but I'm running Acrobat Reader 11 on a couple of Windows 8 Pro X64 installations. Works for me, both as a standalone and as the IE 10 plugin.

This isn't to encourage you to wrestle Acrobat Reader 11 to a fall, but I hope that whatever is causing it to fail doesn't affect any other software that you might use.

the default Reader app does have print. you either press <Ctrl> + <P>
or you go to the charms bar and go to Devices > your printer

You can also right click at the bottom of the page to bring up print.
