*Whenever I analyze my C:\ with Ccleaner's registry cleaner, it always shows about 70 entries for Silverlight.
What could be causing this and would it be safe to remove just these entries?

Installer reference issues C:\ program files (x86)Microsoft Siverlght 4.1
There are some characters after each entry like ; \ru, \lo, \a, \el, \ea, \c.
Each line seems to be different.

*Also there is another block of about 40 entries called; Missing Shared DLL\C\:|Windows\ Microsoft .net\Framework\ver 1.0 then varying characters

Other than that the analysis seems quite clean.

I know registries cleaners can wreak havoc but I was curious because these are so similar. I am wondering if something is malfunctioning.

when ever you update silverlight it always leaves old reg keys behind has done so each update since it first came out, let ccleaner delete them should an error ever happen you can always download a fresh copy of silverlight.
i let ccleaner delete them all [always opt to back up the registry]

I use CCleaner regularly, including the registry cleaner function. I have never had CCLeaner break anything by deleting obsolete keys. I always let CCleaner back up the keys, but I've never had to restore any.

On the other hand, I have no proof that my PC runs faster or more reliably due to the removal of those keys.

Thank you all for your kind replies. I will rid the machine of the Ccleaner entries and keep the backup in case. I think I click 'Merge' if I want to restore, correct?

The CCleaner backups are .reg files. Just double-click one to begin the restoration.

>>Thank you for that; may I ask if merge would also restore the registry.
I ask because I was taught that quite some time ago.

Sorry, I don't know. I've never used "merge". I probably average about once per year entering things into the Registry from a .reg file.

Double click on .reg file or right click on .reg file->Merge will do the same thing. It will add new registry entry if it does not exist in the registry and it will replace the value of the registry if it is different

I appreciate your refining the process so I have it right if and when......
If I do a registry backup , the whole thing as the Ccleaner prompts and not just a part, I just right click on the icon created and the registry is restored. Does a copy go to my documents folder?
I am asking because there are a couple of comments and I want to be sure I have it right. I know those more skilled can do parts but I am referring the backup Ccleaner does generally speaking when asks if you want to restore with a yes or no.

Not necessarily saved in your document folder. Different programs have their own repository, some will prompt you where you want to save the backup, others might silently backup but usually either in the installed folder or under C:\programData\XXX where XXX is the application name

I'm unaware of any feature in the free version of CCleaner that creates a backup copy of the Registry. When I remove entries from the registry, only the stuff removed is saved in the .reg file.

You get to choose the directory where the backups are saved. I made a folder in my documents directory.

Yes, I thought you wisely cleaned parts, not the whole. I was asking hypothetically if one were to click to cleanup the registry as a whole. and then select you would like to back it up, which it in fact does, do you simply click on the merge backup icon? Apparently you right click then click merge -correct?
