Good morning everyone, I am new to the site and need assistance please.
I have downloaded Google Earth and after installation I attempted to access the program, a notice board appeared informing me "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
As I am the Administrator, my wife and I are the only users, I cannot understand why this is happening.
Has anyone any idea as to why and inform me of a way round the problem, it will be much appreciated.

Thanking you in anticipation, very best regards from Keith in Derby.

I've never had any problems with Google Earth, so I'm guessing. In 'advanced setup' of the Download page, it gives the options to make Google Earth available to all user profiles, did you leave this checked?

Do you still see the error if you run it directly from C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google Earth\client\googleearth.exe?

Good morning ARC1020, Thank you for your interest and your reply. I have checked in C:\program files (x86) and C:\program files and goggle earth is not listed at all, I then looked in All Programs, google earth is listed in there but putting the cursor on that file bring up that the file is "empty". Never the less I clicked on it just to see if there was anything in there, another board comes up telling me "You do not have permission" but there is the M/S security shield as well. So I clicked on it and I get the busy icon, after two hours of waiting I closed it down. Then I deleted google earth from my computer using Best Removal Tool software, rebooted and in the address bar of google I put google earth. This took me to google's own web page and I downloaded the software, I checked in advanced download and noticed that the item "available to all users" was checked. In short I have exactly the same set of problems as posted in my request for assistance. I think that I am destined not to be able to use google earth and am about to give up all together on google earth.
Thank you very much indeed for all your help, I appreciate it very much.
Very best regards from Keith in Derby.

Good morning ARC1020, After spending a lot of time trying to get google earth to work on my computer I have decided that it is one of those things that is just not going to work for me. It is something that I do not use it very often but when I do it is mainly for nostalgic reasons and pure curiosity about what things are like in different locations around the world. So although I think it is a marvellous piece of software I have decided to forget about it altogether.
I thank you very much for your time and efforts.
Very best regards from Keith in Derby England.

Hi there
try downloading a different version and re-installing

I've found sometimes in the UK some sites (or probably the Internet provider) seem to issue message "This site cannot be accessed". However if you download the latest version of Google Maps from the GOOGLE Iceland site this will work in the UK (Note the application is in English) -- there is a free internet culture here -- the Wiki leaks guy has almost been adopted as a National hero.

Cheers
jimbo

Good morning jimbo45, Thank you for your reply but I have decided to forget all about Google Earth. It has caused me so much frustration over the past week. As I said in my last reply to ARC1020 it is not a piece of software I use regularly, only on a purely nostalgic trip into the past and some times just to see other places in the world.
Thank you very much indeed for your time.
Very best regards from Keith in Derby England.
