    Microsoft Picture it

    Hello,
I just made the switch from XP over to windows 8. And I was wondering if my OLD picture it 7.0 program would work on this new win8?..I loved that program. It was easy to use and did a lot for what I needed without 500 buttons or layers. If I wanted that I'd go purchase adobe photo shop.

Anyway, please tell me I can still use my beloved picture it 7.0 on my new windows 8. After eleven years. of using it I could probably operate it with my eyes closed.

    Thanks

Apparently it is not compatible with Windows 7, so I daresay you'd be out of luck with Windows 8 as well.

    See here for details.

    Hope this helps.

I would just try it and see, I use a program called Compupic which is also donkeys years old and it wasn't compatible with Vista or Win 7/8 but I still use it and it works fine. You could try the compatibility mode and see if it works. If it doesn't work you can just uninstall it.

To be 100% safe it would be recommended to back up you computer before installing it but as it's only an image editor I can't see it causing major problems.

I just found out that picture it 7 is not compatible with 8, BUT picture it 7 photo is compatible but unknown with windows 7. Thanks to this forums tutorial section I found this site

Windows Compatibility Center: Find Updates, Drivers, & Downloads for Windows 8, Windows RT and Windows 7

I didn't know there was two different versions of picture it 7, but the version I have will work
Thanks all..I am very happy I found this forum!

[update] Just installed it and ran it.. All works fine with no problems what so ever. I work a lot with video and when I add still images I dont want all that flashy, blinky stuff in my images. Videos take up a lot of space and the higher my images are, the more space the videos take up.

Anyway, thanks again Wenda and Tony for all your help.

    Picture It

I have just installed Picture It! 2000 on Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. I used compatibility mode for installation, and the program seems to need to run as administrator (just right click on the icon and select 'Run as Administrator'). Very smooth.
I really like Windows 8. It seems to run lots of old hardware and software.

    Hi Gals and Guys,

since many years I'm using the freeware tool XnView (XnView Software Software for reading, organizing and processing images) and nowadays XnViewMP (0.53 beta) which is available as native x64 application.

Also in windows live essentials you can get photo gallery which is free and is a great editor and viewer and when you hook up a camera to your PC you can use the program to see and name folders and view your pics prior to bringing them in, you can also decide which pics you want to import to your pc
