Helloo! I can't open any programs at all in windows 8. I can open them in safe mode but never in "standard mode". Has anyone got a solution to this?
Thanks!

Can you get to the Metro screen where you can see the program tiles? Can you click on the tiles? If you can, do you get an error when you click on them? Any other info you can provide will be helpful.

Yes, I can go to metro but when trying to open apps, nothing happens. No error, just nothing. I click on them and they "get pushed in" as if they would open but nothing happens. I would love to provide information but it would be very nice if you could be a bit specific with what you need to know. I know nothing about this.
Thank you! :)

I'll try to be specific. I need to assess the problem and the environment first to be as specific as I can with a recommended solution.

How did you get Windows 8 on your computer? An upgrade, fresh install or was it already installed?
Are you running any 3rd party anti virus such as Kaspersky?

It was a fresh install. Worked perfectly up until a couple of days ago. Nope, only using windows defender as antivirus.

I did some googling and it appears that some people are having this problem from screen resolution settings. Try adjusting to 1024 X 768 if you can access display settings and test it out.

Also, open up task manager and see if all of the programs you clicked are running in the background.

I can probably change it in safe mode but I can't open anything in "standard mode" not even ctrl+alt+del.. :(
Will try to change in safe mode but that won't be saved for standard will it?

Did you upgrade your NVIDIA drivers and if you did, is that when the problem started? I know they released an update recently and I see you have a 560.

You do any gaming?

In that case, you might see if doing a system restore at boot using a restore point (if available) dated before this happened may be able to fix it for you.

I play mostly MMO's. I did try out Firefall recently. It's an MMO FPS game. It's pretty impressive so far.

Since safe mode works, I bet it is one of your drivers or the screen resolution problem. You can try creating a new user and see if things work for that new user.

But why would the resolution be a problem? My drivers are up to date! Will try a new user!

I don't know but I have read a bunch of threads pointing to that. It's mostly from people running on small monitors or laptops and having it set too low.
