Transfer an image from one drive to a new one

    Hello
I have Macrium free which works well imaging my system to my eternal drive.
If my system's hard drive fails, will Macrium be able to transfer the imaged system to the new drive providing I format the new drive NTFS?
I also image with the native program for Win 8 Pro.
    Thank you

Yes, Macrium will work fine. Just boot your PC with Macrium Rescue Disk and restore the image to your new drive,
In case you have not yet created the rescue disk, Here's the link you can download from member WHS:

Burn it to cd or USB.

Thank you - I always have a current rescue disc as I use it to recover. Glad to know my system will transfer to the new drive.
    Does it need formatting?

No, you don't even need to create a partition. Just connect your new HD and let Macrium takes care of it.
But for a brand new drive, it's advisable to create partition, format and run chkdsk /r to ensure your new disk is all good.

I hope you imaged both the system partition and the C: partition. Without the system partition your system will not boot and you have to fix that.

Here is the tutorial that Keith made for recovery: Macrium Reflect - Restore With WinRE - YouTube

    >>Thank you for taking the time to make the tutorial. I have a single disc and whenever I have had to recover I checked the box pertaining to the first disc. I hope all the partitions within the disc where included.
I checked all the discs or boxes that were available to me when running Macrium.
The new version gives you a choice of imaging Windows or 'all the local drives'. I choose all the local drives and it recovers well.
I hope this is correct. Is it safe to assume that if I have recovered with the rescue disc, that I am doing this correctly or is there more to it?
I personally like Macrium better than Acronis except for Try and Decide. Macrium is about twice as fast as Acronis.
    Thank you again

This 'all the local drives' is always confusing. Some people use 'drive' for a physical disk and some use it for a partition. In this case they probably refer to partitions.
