This looks like what Microsoft should have done from the outset, if it indeed does what it appears to do (especially the Windows 8 Tweaks):

DisplayFusion: Multi-Monitor Taskbar, Multi-Monitor Screen Savers, HotKeys, Multi-Monitor Wallpaper, Windows Logon Changer and more!

I have had that for years now and the paid version as well. It was well worth the price back then for what I wanted it to do. Now that I'm into to gaming, I use AMD EyeFinity to play games and anything else I want across multiple monitors. Very easy to set up.

What appeared interesting is that the Windows 8 Tweaks function appears to give you the ability to 'window', resize and move about, the MPI (start screen), so that it doesn't occupy the entire screen and insist on being the default screen for everything.

So does this software but seems to have even more features including a Start Menu, for $5 a better value than StarDocks Start8 in my opinion.

RetroUI ? Enhancing Windows 8 and Bringing Back the Start Menu

No, RetroUI is like Classic Start etc. If Fusion does what it seems to do, then it's quite different, it actually alters the stupid start menu.

Display Fusion is superb for a multi monitor setup, allowing control of the separate desktops, which monitor program's open on, multiple task bars, etc. It now has Windows 8 tweaks built in so it will take you straight to the desktop, customise window borders, and have a small start screen if you want to use that. It now also integrates with most of the start menu replacements.
Combining the StarIsBack and Display Fusion means I never see Metro and have a highly effective multi monitor Windows 8 setup. (Call it Windows 7.75 or Windows 8.25)

As far as I can tell, RetroUI and Display Fusion would be used together. Display Fusion doesn't give you a start menu - it makes Windows work better with multiple displays. However, so does RetroUI. RetroUI has a feature that lets Metro apps span across multiple monitors, whereas Display Fusion doesn't have that option. This YouTube video shows the "SuperSize" thing spanning apps across multiple displays: Thinix demonstrates RetroUI Pro v3 with SuperSize technology - YouTube

RetroUI and Display Fusion are not mutually exclusive - they appear to both be able to be utilized at the same time. There are a couple features that overlap - like skipping the start menu and snapping windows, but otherwise I think both could be utilized at the same time.
