Windows 8 having trouble with uploading software

    Hi,
    First time here.
I was wondering if someone could help me with uploading software no windows 8.
I have three software that just will not upload..actually Digital Photo Professional Raw converter did upload in the beginning but I uninstalled it because I was going to install a newer version of DPP which than I realized I need the older program back on since all I needed to do was update it.
When I went to re-install it off my canon CD...it appears to work and even goes through the, you need to restart your computer which I do however, I can't find it and there is no icon on my window.
The other is Icorrect Lab and also a plug in from Icorrect. It says it has a run time error: Tristana Exception occurred.

Can anyone help me? This is beyond frustrating!! I wish I never had Windows 8, but it came with my new computer.
Question: can I buy windows 7 and install on my computer even if it has windows 8 on it???
    Thanks everyone!

Your problem is not with "uploading" software -- it's with installing apps that were not written to run in Windows 8.

This appears to be a Canon product that was shipped in 2007. If you have this version, I would NOT expect it to work in Win8, but you could try it in XP compatibility mode.

Also, you could run the Upgrade Advisor and it will tell you if there are problems with this app.

As to Win7, of course you can buy that and install it over Win8, but there is no guarantee that it will work any better with this product -- unless you are using it currently in Win7 and it works OK.

You could of course trawl the internet for updated versions of the software, it's a shame MS don't regard program compatibility as very important (in my opinion !)

Which model Canon camera is DPP for?

I see at usa.canon.com that Canon offers Win8 downloads for that for some of their cameras. (I don't know whether DPP is the same across all their cameras.) Is there one for yours?

I'm not familiar with "Tristana Exception occurred", but a little quick web searching indicates that the problem is related to an online activation feature (like it's not connecting to an activation server). The current version of iCorrect EditLab Pro is supposed to be Windows 8 compatible:

PictoColor iCorrect EditLab Pro Photoshop Plugin

You may qualify for a free upgrade, but you'd have to check with PictoColor on that.

If you'd like to buy Windows 7 and install that, you could. It would have to be a full version rather than an upgrade license. (I know nothing about downgrade rights, but I have the impression that most PC makers don't offer them.) You'd have to do a clean install, and all of your installed software and files would have to be re-installed. You'd also have to come up with Win7 drivers that supported your hardware, which would be easy if the PC maker supports Windows 7 on the machine, but requiring more skill if you have to hunt them down without support (assuming that it's possible).

Nearly all of the software that I've tried so far that ran under Win7 also runs under Win8, but maybe that's luck. If your older PC ran Windows XP, that would explain your difficulties. There was a major compatibility break between XP and Vista. Subsequent OS changes still broke things, but nothing like the XP to Vista change did.
