questions about screen capture (video recording)

    Yo guys.

Lately I have been producing lots of training videos. (desktop videos, about 40-60 minutes in length).

I have been using camstudio, but the files are so massive. (my latest 30 minute video was 500+ mb)

I was wondering what your favorite video recording software is?

Camtasia seems the best, but it's so damn expensive.

camstudio is free, but the files are too damn big.

Jing is cool, but the free version only has like 5 minute cap lol.

    What are your thoughts?

    Thanks for any opinions

I use Camtasia and Fraps. you can play with the settings to reduce file size. focus on file format, screen resolution and frame rate.

I use wisdom-soft AutoScreenRecorder 3 Pro and I like very much it can deal with large files but after 2Gigs it saves the file and starts a new file, that's never been a problem 4me because I join files afterwards if I need to. Only problem is it cost 50 bucks but 2me its well worth it and I have been able to capture video from many sources without any trouble. It does work on my Windows 8 OS. I recently started using HyperCam 3 on Win 8 and it seems to work OK the saved AVI files seem 2B smaller but I need to do lots more testing, to see if I wanna change for good.

I use WMCapture since years. For a small fee, it works very well. Has the best quality output I have ever seen. There is a free trial that you can check out. Video Screen Capture Software - WM Capture

Here is one of the recent screen captures I made as an example. Note that there is always a little quality loss when you upload it to YouTube or Vimeo. VMware Player - a Windows 8 Demo - Windows 7 Support Forums

Regarding the size of the captured videos: 500MB is pretty normal for a 30 minute video. If you want to reduce the MBs, convert it to .flv - e.g. with Format Factory. Format Factory Home Page - Free media file format converter
