I just installed windows 8 pro. I downloaded and install dropbox, but it does not seem to work. Is dropbox not compatible with 8? I did a search of the forums and saw something of dropbox through the 8 app store, but not sure if that is what I need.

any help is appreciated.

thanks,

Mike

dropbox works fine. I have it. make sure you use a new installer. not an old copy you had lying around.

there is a dropbox Windows Store app but it's pretty worthless. the desktop version is great as always.

thanks. It finally connected and is downloading real slow. I read on some other forums that DB is having server issues.

Getting Dropbox to launch on boot up on Win 8.1 (64bit)

Hi all

I have Dropbox 3.05 installed on my Windows 8.1 (64 bit)machine (HP Laptop).

The icon is on the main screen, however it fails to launch on startup of the laptop - despite having it set to do so, both in the Dropbox program as well as in the start up folder.

When I look at the program details, it appears to be a 32bit program installed. I don't know if this is causing problems, however I am unable to find a 64bit of Dropbox for Windows 8.1.

I have a feeling that it is UAC that maybe stopping the program from launching on startup of the machine.

When I double click on the Dropbox icon to start the program manually, the typical UAC screen comes up (YES/NO) before proceeding.

Anything thoughts, comments, suggestions as to getting DropBox to start when the laptop boots up, as then it would automatically sync files WITHOUT the manual intervention to start DropBox....

Appreciate your thoughts/comments

Yes, it is listed in the "start up folder" as mentioned above.

It is still not starting upon boot up, for some reason....

The only way that I can get it to run is when I double click on the Dropbox icon, then I have the UAC screen come up (dims) and the. I click "YES" ..... Then It starts....

I drop it right down to zero or the lowest level on the slide bar, but the program (Dropbox) still fails to start on boot up.

Any chance you maybe able to help me try the script?
Either what/how to make a similar script or where to find information about it?

I am at a loss as to how to get this working....

Here is the script---

Dim speaks, speech
speaks="Welcome to your Computer YOUR NAME HERE. I am ready to do anything you want."
Set speech=CreateObject("sapi.spvoice")
speech.Speak speaks

View attachment Welcome.vbs

You can edit it to suit. :)
Just put it in your Startup folder & restart the computer.
It will play after all your icons appear.

EDIT... Maybe you could put the .exe in a batch file in Startup.
