Need Help With a Windows 8 APP

I am a new Windows 8 user (new laptop I purchased came with it installed). I have installed START IS BACK which is very useful.

My problem involves the APPS that came with the OS. When I scroll to the right corner to activate the gadgets along the right side of the screen I select SEARCH and I get a screen full of the Applications (presumably installed on my laptop). One of the Applications shown is ACCU WEATHER FOR WINDOWS 8. How do I place that APP on my START SCREEN? When I right click on the APP I get a CHECK MARK and a window on the bottom of the screen shows 3 icons -- Unpin from Start/Uninstall/All Apps. Apparently the CHECK MARK inside the APP Logo indicates it is PINNED TO START however when I bring up the START SCREEN I cannot see the APP at all. I can move the screen from right to left and I see many APPS but that one is not there.

2nd Question: Assuming I can bring that APP to my START SCREEN, is there anyway to change the default WEATHER LOCATION that is displayed?

3rd Question: How do I PIN an APP to the TASKBAR? Where are the EXE FILES for these APPS stored on my laptop?

Hello!

Did you right click on the Accuweather app tile from All Apps and hit Pin to Start?

I don't remember for sure how Accuweather set up their navigation, but it will take either a right click within the app and using the app command bar (the window that pops up at the top or bottom) and changing the default location.

You can't pin apps to the Taskbar on the Desktop, they're a separate entity from traditional Desktop software.

Also, it seems to me that you need some help in general with the Start Screen. Do you need any other assistance with that?

I'll post my Start Screen to help spur any questions.

And welcome! :)

How do I PIN an APP to the TASKBAR? Where are the EXE FILES for these APPS stored on my laptop?

Unfortunately, we can't pin Windows 8 Apps to the Taskbar. Only desktop programs can be pinned there.

how is accuweather? I've been super happy with the default weather app that I haven't bothered to look around. what makes accuweather worthy? or is this just a comfort level (something that's traditional to the person)?

OK. Here is how I see ACCUWEATHER APP. Move to right hand corner and click on SEARCH. That produces a screen which shows APPS and a split screen showing SEARCH. ACCUWEATHER APP is the first one on the top left. When I right click on it shows a CHECKMARK and a BAR OPENS at the bottom of the screen. In that bar are 3 choices -- Unpin From Start, Delete and All Apps. So I am assuming that the APP is Pinned to my START SCREEN. OK. So I close that out -- go to right corner again and select
START. Screen fills with a bunch of APPS but ACCUWEATHER is not one of them...???? What next?

did you check each of the tiles carefully to make sure accuweather is not among them? with a lot of live tiles, it can be difficult to know the app name because the tile doesn't show the app name but rather, it shows the live content. in this case, I would assume the accuweather app would be showing weather information.

also when you first pin an app, it goes to the far right side of the start screen. you have to scroll as far right as possible for your start screen. and then you can drag your app to a more suitable location. if you have a really long start screen, it's better to drag the app downward so that the start screen view is zoomed out so you can cover a lot more ground when scrolling rather than scrolling an entire start screen.

In that bar are 3 choices -- Unpin From Start, Delete and All Apps.

I'd click "unpin from start," then see if it gives me the option to again pin it. If so, do so. If that doesn't work, uninstall the app then reinstall. If those don't work, I'm at a loss.

Man, I assumed the OP knew that apps can go off screen to the right and one has to scroll over to see them. Probably does, but it was a good catch on your part to ask the question.
