A couple of weeks ago, my comp crashed, restarted & auto-updated at the same time. After this, almost all my live tiles including Mail, Photos, etc..are missing. I tried searching for them & was unable to find the app to pin it back to the start menu. I have no clue what happened? Any help would be appreciated.

Try running sfc /scannow. Also, try doing an automatic repair.

Also, you could try setting up a new user of the same level you are using. See if things are working properly. If yes, copy everything needed (files, shortcuts, etc.) to the new user account. Then delete the old user account. If you want to use the old user name, then repeat the process. After deleting a user, look in C: Users, and make sure that the old user folder is deleted; it may have no contents, but still be present (which will mess you up without serious effect if you want to go back to the original user name). If still there, then delete it. You may need to take ownership to do so. Another link on take ownership here.

Znod Hi,

I did try creating another user account only to see that the start screen on the other account did not have any live tiles either. I am going to try the automatic repair. Any other ideas might be helpful too.

Thx.

If not done, Try running sfc /scannow. Beyond this step, I am down to refreshing your PC or resetting it.

Refresh your PC—Attempts to solve system problems by replacing system files without affecting user data files. Such files still should be backed up. Installed programs will have to be reinstalled except those from the Windows Store. A list of uninstalled programs is provided. Settings will be maintained.

Reset your PC—Formats, removes everything, and reinstalls Win8. Not even settings maintained. Be well backed up.

Hi guys. Just to let you know, I was helping another fella in another thread. We think it to be a update that's causing this tile/app disappearing issue. Here's what he came up to solve it:

Problem - Mail / Calendar / Messenger / People App not listed anywhere on Metro screen or under 'All Apps' or coming up under search in the charms bar. in the store it was showing as installed. Solution - Click on store from metro screen, right click (or equiv for touch screen), click on 'My Apps' in the new menu at the top of screen, from the left drop down chose 'Apps installed on PC' and then select Mail / People / Calendar and Messenging' and at the bottom comes an option to install.
