I really hate getting ads on my Start screen. Does anyone know how to get rid of them for good?

Thanks,
BobI

There are no ads on the start screen. What are you talking about?

Sorry, you are correct. I installed Microsoft Mah Jong, and there is an ad on the first screen when I load the app. I've seen ads on other app screens too.

Yes, some apps have ads. If you don't like it, don't use the apps. You are free to purchase ad-free apps if you like.

Since the ad is way at the very end of the screen, you probably won't even see it very often.. I consider it very out of the way. If you want free apps, sometimes you have to put up with ads.

You are correct, many of the free apps, as with Apple and Android free apps, have ads. Some apps (MetroTwit for example) have a free and fee based version. The ads pay for the app when it's free. It's a tradeoff. For apps I use a lot, I'll often go with the ad free version.

I guess that since I've been able to download all sorts of free programs, not apps, for every version of Windows from '95 on, and not had to deal with advertising, it's difficult for me to me to get used to it, even if it's hiding in plain sight near the right border.

As some one who does programming as a hobby, I am all for it. However they must not be overly flashy and must not interfere with the normal operation of the program. I have seen the later in at least a few instances of modern apps..
