All DVD's Being Read as Blank

So every time I insert any DVD/CD (I've tried multiple from different movies and TV shows) my computer brings up Roxio Burn and says that the disc is blank which is I know isn't true. Anyone know why this is happening?

can you try another program? lots of nice free ones out there like ImgBurn or InfraRecorder.

Windows 8 also has a free DVD writer built-in.

In your Device Manager is there any issues with your DVD/CD Drives? Also what type of computer are you using?

I would change the default settings for using the cd/dvd drive. Go to control panel, default programs, change autoplay settings, removable drive...and select your preference.

I believe that Windows 8 doesn't have the ability to natively play back DVDs. You need to install the Windows Media Center Pack or a program like VLC to enable DVD playback.

True, but a commercial movie DVD won't show up as blank in Windows 8 Pro that doesn't have WMC installed. alliemdb is not seeing normal Win8 behavior.
