Can't do Direct Screen-Shot Capture. Thoughs?

I'm using a 6-7 year old HP lappy for Win8 Pro. No uEFI, but I don't think having uEFI or not is likely to matter WRT my problem (could be wrong though). I can't do the direct screen-shot capture described in this tutorial. I don't think the snipping tool can be used to do what I want. Actually, I am not sure the screen-shot capture would do the job either. I am trying to get a screen shot particularly of the metro start screen and also some other metro screens. Does anyone know if the screen-shot capture allows one to get screen shots in the metro area? Is there any way to get them using the snipping tool? Is there any other screen-shot software that would get the job done?

Can you suggest a fix for my installation assuming that's the problem? Automatic repair repaired nothing, and sfc /scannow found no corruption. I won't do a reset, refresh, or other reinstall of my system to eliminate my problem.

Does alt-printscreen do anything for you? On my system, it captures a screenshot to the Windows clipboard. I can paste it into Paint (the desktop application).

Thank much for our reply. Great question. Actually, no. I should have made that clear. I am having trouble there also. Printscreen does nothing either. My keyboard driver looks good to go in Device manager. 8 Pro installed it. It is not a Vista driver--as came with my machine. The Vista driver, as though, is not available on the HP site.

    1. Run snipping tool
    2. Open Metro Screen or whatever
    3. Ctrl + PrintScreen
    4. Drag Mouse to capture

Thanks for the reply. I had tried that. No workie on this machine. My main problem seems to be that print screen isn't working.

Well, If that's the case then you need: Download Snagit Free Trial
which you can re-assign the PrintScreen key to something else, for example: F8

    Here's the screen shot:

Thanks. The problem may be with my keyboard/driver, in general, but I am not sure. Do you know if you can get screen shots in general from the metro area with a properly functioning print screen whether used in combo with win key or alt, by itself, with snagit, or whatever?

With Ctrl+Shift+Alt and anything but not with WIN key.
Just download the trial and try it yourself

I don't quite understand what you meant. I thought your PrintScreen Key is bad so you want to avoid using that key by re-assign it to another key or a combo of keys to perform capturing.
