Using Notepad, you can open the file "AutoHotkey.ahk" and if you look on line 18, I have a line as follows:

    F8::^PrintScreen

That tells the program to map: Ctrl+PrintScreen =====> F8

Perhaps the F8 key might be a little bit sticky, you should not have to press twice so maybe you want to map it to another key on your keyboard.

If you look at the line above you'll see: #z::Run AutoHotkey
The # represents the Win Key, so if you press Win+z, it will open the AutoHotkey Homepage.

Just read thru the script and you'll know what symbol is represented.

After running AutoHotKey, right click on it and select "reload this script" just to make sure it is loading correctly.

Here, I am not replying to your latest post. I'll get to it. I am looking into what I mentioned earlier--in my PS.

I am looking into what happens if I go deeper into the metro interface and want to do a snip--as mentioned above. Getting back on task, I found that, for example, if I want a rectangular snip that I can go as follows assuming that AutoHotKey is running:

    1. I start the Snipping Tool; it is not greyed.
    2. I go to the start screen and use F8. Nothing apparent happens.
    3. I am in the start screen, but instead of going back to the start screen again, I go to the desktop.
    4. The start screen reappears greyed, and I can use the snipping tool as expected--for a rectangular snip.

Somewhat analogously, suppose I want a rectangular snip of the General screen in metro/PC Settings. Assuming that AutoHotkey is running:

    1. I start the Snipping Tool; it is not greyed.
    2. I go Settings > Change PC Settings > General and use F8. Nothing apparent happens.
    4. Now, I go back to the start screen and then to the desktop.
    5. The General screen reappears greyed, and I can use the snipping tool as expected--for a rectangular snip.

In either case, if I wanted, for example, a free-form snip rather that a rectangular one, then in place of either 1 above:

    1.
I start the snipping tool and choose free-form snip--which greys the screen and then use escape to get rid of the grey. Then, depending on the case, I do 2 through 4.

I see what you are saying, but I don't have to do F8 twice. I thought I had to go to the start screen twice, but now I realize that, instead of going start screen twice, I can go start screen > desktop--as a general procedure. I did a lot of step writing above to document what is happening with me and AutoHotKey--for you or anyone else that might benefit from my experience. Check out all the steps I have described; no mention of F8 twice.

As mentioned, I am happy with the outcome--even if, for some reason, I might have to do an extra step. Regardless, I definitely am willing to entertain anything else you want to say. You have been very, very helpful, and I greatly appreciate your input.

I did not mean to fail to reply to you for so long. I got very busy as you can see (including going to the gym and the grocery store). Even though I did not get around to trying your suggestion, I thank you for replying.

Thanks for your interest Shawn. Topgundcp summed it up correctly. I decided that my print screen key was broken part what through all the discussion.
