Missing Tiles

I installed Win 8 a couple of weeks before Xmas and a while back when I restarted I noticed that most of the 'Default' tiles had gone missing from the Start Page - see below.


I am not aware of having done anything to remove them and can't even remember what they were.
I wondered if anyone could tell me if it's possible to restore them somehow.

Hello Peter,

Check to see if you may need to scroll to the left more to be able to see them on the Start screen. The scroll bar will appear at the bottom when you hover the pointer over the bottom of the Start screen if there are any tiles off screen.

If they are not there, then you might double check in All Apps to see if the tiles are still there.

If so, then you could just pin the apps back to the Start screen.

There is no scroll bar on the start screen, and when I check in All Apps, all the installed programs are there but nothing that relates to the original tiles (at least I don't think so but I can't remember what they were).

Here are the default Store apps that are included with Windows 8 below.



You might check in "Your Apps" in the Store using OPTION ONE in the tutorial below, to see if they are listed there to reinstall.

If not, then you could search the Store for each app's name, then install them again.

I had this problem a few weeks ago. Missed some programs like Adobe Reader. It wasn't available in Start as well as Apps. But when I looked in "remove programs" I saw it was installed properly.

The only solution I found was to reinstall Adobe Reader.

Fortunately I didn't experience this problem with any Windows 'native' apps.

I think this might be a problem with Windows 8 that has to be solved by Microsoft. Perhaps next patch Tuesday?

Try opening a command prompt as administrator and run the command "sfc /scannow" without quotations. To run command prompt as administrator go to the Start Screen and type command, it should come up as first match, right click the app and select to run as administrator on the menu that pops up at the bottom of the screen.
