Bug - 32 bit programs are a hazard

Win 8 doesn't like 32 bit programs. The first thing I found is that they have to be in the registry to run at startup.

I have a shortcut bar on my desktop that has a bunch of buttons that launch programs like a regular shortcut does. I just ran into a problem with one of the programs I had on the bar was taking a long time to start so I tried starting the program directly and it worked fine; the bar was in compatibility mode XP SP3. I took the bar out of compatibility mode and the program launched perfectly.

Another issue is that I have Task Manager loaded into one of the bar's buttons and it will not start unless the bar is in XP SP3 mode.

What we need here is a BUG forum that MS needs to watch...

    64-bit Windows 10

    Hello rdwray,

Windows 8 supports 32-bit programs just fine.

What's the name of the program?

This is most likely an issue with the program not being written to be fully compatible with Windows 8. You might check to see if you have the latest version of the program installed, or if there are any updates available for the program that may allow it to run better in Windows 8.
