Solved Problems with Metro Apps connecting to the Internet

Hello. I recently upgraded my Inspiron 17R laptop, that is around 1 year old, from Windows 7 to Windows 8. At first, everything worked, I was able to go through every app have them work, but then Action Center told me that I needed to select a program to set up my firewall and antivirus protection. I selected McAfee for each, having a valid subscription. My apps didn't work then, and I thought it was McAfee. I went through McAfee and turned the firewall off, but they app still didn't work. I then uninstalled it in hoping that it would be fixed, but it didn't. I don't know if this affects it, but I switched email accounts for the profile on my computer. Are there any known programs that I may have that prevent the apps from accessing the internet or anything simple I can do to fix the problem?

(I am unable to access Mail, Calender, People, Messaging, Store, Maps, Skydrive, and Games. I can't connect to my xbox live account either through the Minesweeper app, even though i can connect through google chrome. The apps either open and stay at a white screen or load indefinetly.)

Hi thelonster, welcome to the forums, try uninstalling the graphics driver and re-install it or get the latest driver if available and install and see whether it fixes the problem.

Since this was an upgrade, you might see if refreshing Windows 8 may help. Unfortunately, you will need to reinstall any 3rd party programs (not Store apps) afterwards.

Hope this helps, :)

You will need to uninstall McAfee completely using it's special uninstall tool.

The download for this tool is about half way down the page in the link below. Follow instructions there to uninstall McAfee completely from your system.

Thank you. IT asks me to insert Media, what media is needed?

This would be for your Windows 8 installation media (ex: DVD/USB). A refresh needs it to be able to refresh.

On another note, whenever I go to restart and update, it always loads the update to 100%, then it says it has failed to configure the update and reverts all changes. Is there a known solution for this?

Ok, I fixed the problem by re-installing Windows 8 clean, but now my it won't pick up my headphones when I insert them into the jack on the side of my laptop.
