Solved Adding .exe to startup. How?

Hello everyone I'm new to the forum, I came here in hopes someone could help me with an issue.

I usually had UAC in windows 7 disabled (never had any trouble with it) and I used to have in my laptop an exe file added to startup. This file was related to HD power management which is very useful, called quietHDD.

When I started using windows 8 with a new laptop, I made some research about this and came out with nothing. Only disabling UAC fully, that I could add a simpler exe file. Now, I was informed that Metro UI would wreck with this and I really don't mind having UAC if it's a matter of security anyway. I only don't like is that UAC doesn't let me add this exe by my personal hand to startup (it's the same moving files, I try moving and windows asks me again and demands a click for my admin rights omg.... I'M THE OWNER).

Is there a way to get it working at startup? This exe is not installed, it's just a simple program that doubleclick and runs.

There's nothing wrong with your account. It's the same as it was in Vista and Windows 7. You're administrator account just doesn't have "elevated" rights until you approve through UAC. That's all. Only the built-in Administrator account has elevated rights by default.

It's a security measure to prevent anything (ex: malware) to run elevated (run as administrator) in the background without you knowing about it.

As a workaround for your issue, you could use the tutorial below, and set the elevated shortcut (steps 13-19) to run at startup (step 23) without being prompted by UAC.

Brink, thank you very much, I was able to understand the logic behind the procedure so it would run any exe without totally disabling UAC. I made the shortcut, then sent it to startup folder in appdata to work at boot. I'm very happy with the solution! Finally it's working as I wanted! (So my laptop disk lasts longer)
