Netflix Constantly Freezes in Browsers - Please Help!

I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro (not a clean install) and have had an issue where Netflix (on the website, not the Metro app) freezes a few minutes into the video. There's no error message or anything - the page just turns black and remains so until the page is refreshed (occasionally I will get a message about Silverlight crashing and asking to restart it, but it depends on the browser). Then the video will proceed to play for a few more minutes until the process repeats and it freezes again. I have tried IE, Chrome, Firefox... Same story. I have re-installed Silverlight several times. I've checked to make sure my video drivers are updated. HELP!!!

Specs: Dell XPS, 3.4 MHz, 8 GB RAM, Win8 Pro

Hey b,

I've been having the same issue. When I try watching a Netflix movie on the website the whole browser crashes after 30 seconds or so. I too upgraded to Windows 8 and reinstalled silverlight. I guess we're stuck using the Metro app until a fix comes along. Let me know if you came up with a solution.

Thanks!

Hey all,

Same problem here except I have a fresh install of win 8 pro, updated all video drivers installed and reinstalled silverlight. Also the Netflix app will crash the same as the browser. Any help will be appreciated.

Well, it's good to know the problem isn't due to it being an upgrade vs. a clean install - I'd considered doing a clean install to see if that helped, but that's obviously a hassle.

If the Metro app could be snapped to half the screen, this wouldn't be as big an issue. But it can only snap to 25%, which makes viewing while multitasking difficult.

I'm not sure who's at fault here, Netflix or Microsoft?

Unfortunately, my resolution was to downgrade back to Windows 7. Netflix is working perfectly again. I was willing to live with the issue until it was resolved, but then my task bar started randomly freezing after some Windows updates and then I couldn't even toggle between the start screen and desktop without Explorer crashing. I had enough... I really wanted to like Windows 8.

Well not sure about the rest of you but Netflix app is working fine for me now. Didn't change anything just tried it last night and watched a full movie without any crashes what so ever. I have been doing all the windows updates and app updates. Hope it works for the rest of you too.
