    Hello X703jko,

What file extension is this for?

If this is for one of the default file extensions in Windows 8, then you could use the tutorial below to quickly restore it's default association to have it open with the normal default program.

Default File Associations - Restore in Windows 8

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Unfortunately it's for a third party software package that's not in the tutorial.

I do see where in the register it is...but I don't remember if I can just delete the registry entry for it's "OpenWithList"

By the way...I forgot to mention that the file should not be associated with any program. That is, the original state was when you double click on the file it does an "Open With..." I want to restore it to the original state.

    Can you help?

What file did you set to be opened with by the program, and what was originally set to open the file with?

You would need to set that program as the default program first.

Default Programs - Set Your Default Programs in Windows 8

Afterwards, the tutorial below can show you how to remove the unwanted entry on "Open with".

This won't work. The file didn't have an association before I messed up. When I originally double clicked on it Windows 8 asked me to select a program...I selected Notepad and forgot to uncheck the dreaded "always open with..." box.

I want to undo what I did....

Ok. That's what I was thinking, but needed more feedback from you to make sure. The tutorial below can help show you how to unassociated the file extension.

What's the file extension of the file, and I'll be happy to write up a .reg file that will unassociate it for you?
