Can't install simple programs like Dropbox, spotify etc.

I am having trouble installing simple programs on my laptop with windows 8.

When I click on the icon to install, nothing happens. When I go to the joblist, the program is listed there but dosen't use any cpu usage or ram. So nothing happens at all.

It is simple programs like VLC media player, Spotify, Dropbox and SPSS statistics.

I have tried to open it as an administrator but that dosen't help either.

Does anyone have a solution or an explanation?

More detailed system specs/info would help? It isn't by chance Windows RT is it?

It is a samsung NP535U3C laptop with Windows 8 (not RT)

What are you running for Anti-virus? Did you try adjusting UAC?

I am using af trial period of Norton. I must admit I am not an Expert in computers, so i don't know what UAC is?
But you might be right, because when i try to erase the spotify installer file, a message pops up that it is being used by Norton, and therefore cannot be erased.

It sounds like it may be Norton messing things up. Windows 8 comes with Windows Defender which basically just a renamed Microsoft Security Essentials. A newer version of what came with Windows 7. It's a free anti-malware solution and spyware protection for your computer. UAC stands for User Account Control. That's what dims your screen and asks you if you really, really, what to do something. I've seen instances where if its set to high or even turned off completely, software installs fail. If you don't know what it is then that means you haven't touched it so its not likely your issue. It's probably Norton
