How can I watch blu-ray disc films?

I have recently got an Acer z5801 all-in-one second-hand, I immediately upgraded it with Win 8 - but I'm trying to check all the key parts work so I put in Avatar to check its Blu-ray player is functioning?

How do I get to watch it? The movie app is all for online stuff and avi files and I don't think Windows Media Player in the desktop environment plays blu-rays?

If you have Windows 8 Pro there are options to add the ability to play those through Media Center, the addition of which includes codecs for DVD and was supposed to include those for Blu-ray discs.

I believe it doesn't allow Blu-ray playback though from further reading on the web.

If you have Windows 8 (non-Pro) installed, then you will need to buy the Windows 8 Pro Pack to have Media Center added and all the features of Windows 8 Pro.
