You have to decrypt the disc, unless you are using something like Cyberlink or WinDVD. This would allow you to use the player of your choice. DVDFab makes a free one, which works okay, but isn't fully featured, nor does it remove all types of Bluray encryptions. There's also BDFree, but last I checked, the project wasn't active. AnyDVD HD works great (considered the best option out there) and is what I use, but you'll pay a premium for it. Once that is done, VLC would work just fine for a player. I use both VLC and Media Player Classic Home Cinema. I actually use the latter with K-lite Full, but some recommend against using codec "packs." I've never had any real trouble with using it and it plays anything in the highest quality possible. If for some odd reason it won't play a given file, VLC is my backup.

VLC plays blu ray movie free

VLC can play blu ray movie, i have used for several discs, but you need download and place the AACS and BD+ DRM libraries and keys in order to play Blu Ray on Windows 8. This guide helps me. I appreciate the guy who wrote it. And for the latest blu ray disc movie, i use ufusoft blu ray player, it works well. Hope it helps

Best Regards

Try DAPlayer - Free HD Bluray Video Multimedia Player Software

I have this installed in Windows 8 x64 and it's working fine. I don't see any reason why it won't work with Windows 7 or Vista. It may not have the looks or the same extent of settings/controls as the likes of paid solutions such as Cyberlink, WinDVD, and TotalMedia Theatre 5, but it works and, unlike the others, is able to output its video over a VGA/analogue connection (TotalMedia Theatre 5 starts to play, but then stops and I suspect the reason is because it needs a digital connection to the monitor).

Thanks for that. I look forward to giving it a try.

Seems too good to be true, but hope springs eternal.

Try going to the website of the brand of Bluray player you got. They might have an updated version of the software for Win8.
