accessing the internet via tiles

hi, i am nearly at the end of my tether trying to find a solution to this. I am by no means an expert and get cofused with people talking 'technical' - I need an easy solution if possible.

As i installed windows 8 from a download, i don't have a disc or a usb stick with the installation files on.

When i try to access any of the tiles, they open, but nothing actually works - in so much that they are not connected to the internet, yet when i access firefox via a tile it will, or via the desktop.

so, mail, ie, store, weather etc etc will not work from the tiles.

i have updated via windows update, tried to get them to work with avg disabled, reset the connection, even downloaded a trouble shooting tool, all to no avail.

please help if you can

many thanks

Did the tiles ever work? If so, do a system restore to a point before they stopped working. All programs installed later than the chosen point will be uninstalled. But, that could be a good thing since one of them may be the culprit.

Hi, no they haven't.

Also, internet explorer when access via the desktop is not reliably opening web pages, where my daughter's who is still on windows 7 will.

I'm beginning to think I made a mistake here!

System restore as I mentioned. Then, hopefully you'll have a fresh start. See my prior reply.
