Shortcut to Microsoft Office 2010 Not working

I downloaded and installed Microsoft professional 2010 to my new laptop. As a result, each program has its own tile on the Windows 8 start menu. However, the tile with the Microsoft icon, is not active. It is also not active on the desktop view. I can get into each individual program by clicking on its tile, but would like the Microsoft icon active. Can someone please help

honestly I have no idea of what tile with Microsoft icon you are talking about . I always use the individual Word, Excel tile to open what I want.

There is an icon on the windows 8 startup menu and on the desktop. However, when I click on them they are no active.
