I've successfully made a system image with free Macrium. My question is when I click on other tasks at top of page and create rescue media,it works ok .When I click on other tasks at lhs of page and create bootable rescue media,it takes a bit longer and uses more space on the dvd than the first one.Sorry to be so thick but can someone explain the difference to me.
It should not make any difference whether you create a rescue disk from the menu or from the tool bar, it will run the same code to create it. The only explanation I can guess is maybe the second DVD was having some bad blocks and Macrium tried to read & skipped those blocks & maybe that's why it takes longer. Personally, I create the rescue disk using a USB stick because it'll boot up faster than DVD and also I can re-use it when I need to create a new version. Just out of curiousity, you may want to create another one to see if it's still different in size.

Thanks for your reply. The second one also took up a lot more space on the dvd than the first one.

Did you create your DVD while having Norton running ??? Everytime you create new DVD you should turn off all the anti virus software because it can mess it up.

Should I disable Norton when doing system images?

Yes. Always !!! Disable also when installing new software.

In addition, before I make a backup image, I always clean up all the temp files, clean registry, run sfc /scannow from elevated command prompt to ensure that everything is clean then make the backup.

Always run verification on the image to make sure the backup is clean.

I have UEFI BIOS. I have just backed up my system with the free Macrium Reflect 5.2.6515 and also created a Rescue Disk.

On booting with the Rescue Disk in Safe Boot the the Rescue Disk CD is skipped and the Laptop boots to the OS. My question is that if for some reason the C Drive is unable to boot then will the Laptop boot from the Optical Drive and enable me to restore the Macrium Reflect Image?

My second question is that if I boot the Laptop in Legacy Mode from the Optical Drive then shall I be able to restore the Macrium Reflect Image? If that fails then would I be able to fall back on my .wim Image to restore the system with or without going through the Factory Image route?

    TIA.

You need to create the Macrium boot menu:

Sorry David, no dice. You are using the standard version while I use the free version. The option that you talking of does not exist in the free version. Now what?
