As a desktop power user (large screen monitor(s), several windows open, complex programs, writing, spreadsheet, coding, picture manipulation, etc.) have you found any "Metro" (full screen on your monitor) apps that pull you away from the desktop?

Hello HG. Not sure if I like maroon or green better.
You certainly have a lot of little green cubes under your new title.

As a desktop power user (large screen monitor(s), several windows open, complex programs, writing, spreadsheet, coding, picture manipulation, etc.) have you found any "Metro" (full screen on your monitor) apps that pull you away from the desktop?

IMO, the desktop is always visible by thumbnail, even when using a metro app.
(top left corner or left edge pull down) ... always available in a microsecond.

I tend to agree. That's why I asked the question :)

Are you running Windows 8 so you can see all the apps available with the released version?

Nope. I find metro apps to be infuriating, limited, and useless with their extreme sizing limitations. Some look pretty, but I'll gladly give up looks for functionality every time.

Why make this statement? Obviously you know metro apps are not written for Win32. A lack of resize capability does, IMO, not make an app useless. I am sure MS has deliberately made this as difficult as possible to use. That must be their intention. So you don't like the new UI, ... ok.

Why cannot I be entitled to express my opinion that I find apps to be useless on my desktop or laptop. I don't want full screen apps. I just don't, plain and simple. I have them on my 4.8" smartphone because the screen is tiny, on a 24" desktop monitor, it's just a waste of space as far as I am concerned.

I'm sure MS didn't purposely say, "Let's piddle off pparks1 and make these apps not resize", but it's what we have and it's how they work right now and I don't think they are useful.

I don't believe that you have to simply accept what is put in front of you and if you don't like what is there, you can express your concerns and try to make things better. I have used Windows 8 rather extensively, I'm making statements based on my own personal usage.

You can, and you did very well.

It's the connection between reality and preference that might be at issue. WinRT is supposedly a better and more secure coding platform than Win32. So as app development evolves, Win32 might diminish. It's ok to say the metro is crap, infuriating and useless. All one has to do is research the direction of coding platforms.
Win32 is not the future.

Win32 is not the future.
It might be the forseeable future. Windows XP has been around for 10+ years with people hanging on. 64bit has been the touted future for about 6+ years, yet they still offer 32bit versions of Windows 8. I expect in future versions of the software, these shortcomings that I perceive will be addressed and resizing will be possible. Many of us will find touchscreen monitors to become the norm and thus our use of the computer might change.

But today, I use Win32 apps. I don't have touchscreens, and I want more than 2 apps per display.

I have, but at 320px wide, it's so narrow that unless it's something very, very simple.....its too narrow to really do anything with. And why have it go from top of my monitor to the bottom of my monitor. It seems like wasted space.
