Installed 8 - apps don´t work

I´ve installed windows eight and it all seemed to go fine but I can´t get the apps to work. Everthing runs ok via the desktop but when I try to open an app it opens, shows the logo for a few seconds and then returns to the Start screen.

When I open my old programs I´m directed to the Desktop and I´m informed that ati catalyst doesn´t work.

Anyone know whats wrong or what I´ve missed?

Sounds like the video card drivers or a resolution problem, what are you running it on and at what resolution.

My resolution is 1366¤768 which is recomended. I´m not sure what you mean with running it on. It´s av HP with AMD Premium Vision and ATI Radeon which supports directX11. It should have the specs for running 8.

Thanks for trying to help!

I had the same problem, the tile apps wouldn't connect. After some troubleshooting with Microsoft, we found that Kaspersky Internet Security was the problem. I uninstalled it and the tiles worked fine. Afterwards, I reinstalled Kaspersky and the tiles are still working.

Found a solution. Avast anti virus was stopping the metro apps from running. Anyone know what the solution is here, have Avast issued an update so their software works on Windows 8?

You may be able to reinstall Avast and still have the Metro apps work. That's what happened with me and Kaspersky.

Do you happen to have Avast installed on your PC? Most likely that's the case.

Update the program and restart the PC afterwards. It doesn't matter if it is the Free or the Paid version. After the restart, you would see in their update message that Avast is now fully compatible with Windows 8. Try using the Modern apps now and you would see a difference. :)

I would say that the same condition applies for Kaspersky or any other antivirus program that prevents Modern apps from opening properly.
