Weeks ago I pinned my first websites using the Push Pin while browsing with IE10-Metro.

I pinned "Google" and "Eight Forums"

I was greeted with a bland colored tile with an off white "e" as an icon for those sites.
Somewhat of a non-"START"er
Nothing to differentiate one site from the other, other than the Title.

I was quite surprise that some days later I pinned some other sites.

Facebook/Bing/Pandora.

WOW. Site specific Icons and site specific coloring for the Tile.

So, the questions are...

How does a site 'tell?' the Metro browser how to color and iconize the pinning?
Why is this sites pinned icon/color a plain jane?

I don't really NEED an answer, I was just curious about what comes into play in determining those parameters.

The ICONize support in IE browsers are depending on the site's favicon itself...

Mostly, favicons that supports 32px/16px.. if the site had only 16px favicon then it wont show that large icon...
you can verify that in my site too by pinning it to start screen or taskbar ;)

I've upped a new 64x64 icon, I cant try it as I'm not in Windows 8 atm and my IE9 on this PC refuses to show favicons

LMK if this sorts the problem (you may need to re-pin)

No, it still shows the IE icon when pinned to the "Start" screen from within IE10 Metro.

Some sites are capable of displaying the correct favicon when pinned to the start menu, so it might be worth comparing the code to see if there is anything that might point to the issue.

Smithsonian and BBC - Homepage both show the favicon as opposed to the generic IE symbol (which is also displayed by Google).

I thought I'd have another look at this and I seem to have cracked it

If you pin the site now it shows the site logo on the metro screen.

I've done a few tests tonight and the tile color is determined by the dominent color in a sites favicon.

Color my world

It worked like a 'charm' :)

You have achieved a nice royal blue color with your site specific icon embedded within.
No more Metro IE lower case "e". Thank you for your efforts, much appreciated.

Eh, not a fan of the orangish color. Red may be better, but blue matches the site's default color better.

Good work fixing that, I agree with Brink though, I like the blue much better

Maybe the Seven Forums favicon needs a bit more blue :zip:
