There needs to be more oversight in what gets posted....

...in the News subforum.

Seriously, it's getting ridiculous. Why is it that in the Windows H8 Forums, there are LITERALLY at least four new postings each and every day whereas Windows 7 gets like three things posted per week? And what's worse, people are posting things there that isn't EVEN NEWS to begin with, just some smear stuff of biased writing. Back in my day (not that it was even long ago) news was to be unbiased to even be considered news. That obviously doesn't apply here because whatever anyone feels like posting in the News thread, gets posted.

I don't know about anyone else, but when I come to this site and hit the News subforum, I EXPECT to see GENUINE news, recent developments, or something major about Microsoft there; not things like, "Windows 8 is failing" or "An open letter to Microsoft about Windows Red" or "Whatever the hell Windows Red is."

Basically, either up the standards of what users can post things in News or remove postings that don't fit a proper standard of what news is. Leave the bias in General Support or Chill out or in the comments of genuine news postings.

Yeah I have to say I agree that whatever the merits or otherwise of "Windows Red", it certainly doesn't need two threads, both pointing at the same domain.

On the other hand Windows 8/8.1 is in the news media a lot lately (and I don't just mean tech sites) so you'd expect a peak of stories just now.

The problem is that something happens (Microsoft announce something/ a new build is leaked/ whatever) and then umpteen tech sites all give their slightly different spin on that one event, spawning lots of threads.

It would be nicer if there was a way to amalgamate them all together, but I realise that it ain't easy being a Forum admin/ moderator.

I never actually browse any of the subforums directly. I hit New Posts and just read top to bottom. Most of the threads with respect to Windows is failing, i don't even read.

I'm not really sure how we can fairly censor "news" though? I mean are positive pieces like 40m licenses sold, or 10 more apps in the app store really any more worthy than a study showing xx # of people aren't upgrading to Windows 8 because of X, Y, and Z.

Unfortunately Coke, Windows 8 isn't a beloved OS for many. And with that, you are going to see many negative articles. Far more than you could see on Windows 7. Gotta take the good with the bad. As an avid support, I expect you to be more upset about the negatives than say somebody like me who doesn't completely agree that 8 is the most awesome thing ever produced.

It almost sounds like coke just wants good news about windows 8 but there just isn't much of that out there.

What is and what is not news has changed over the past few years. Many of the sources that have been quoted as news has been from companies that use to actually print things. On paper! Oh, the good old days. But the sites/news about IT related issues is surprise, written by people who work in IT and IT in general is livid about the new OS. Yes, we are smart enough to get around in it and have found some great new things in it but we also know that we can't install it due to the many, many issues these 'news' stories have brought out.

Windows Seven News is actually quite busy, it's just not much about Windows Seven, as it is a mature OS. But I post security and PC related news there almost every day, as does Brink and others. Who will be the arbiter of what constitutes news? And is it only good news that will be allowed? I think it's more about the replies then the actual news. A Guy

I've only posted once, and I made sure It was Win 8 related. There are lots of things I wanna post, but the News area is not the best place for em. Is it OK to post em in the Chillout Room?

Please don't take the mess that is the News forum and move it to the Chill Out forum. One messed up forum on here is enough and we use the Chill Out forum to Chill Out, not debate Windows 8. If I read a post in the News forum I normally don't read past the first post as most of it is the same old debate, just re-hashed. BORRING!

Fact is that most of the news around W8 isn't all that positive so it stands to reason that the news forum will be dominated by the same. If W8 becomes more mainstream, It will change. Until then, you will need to cope.
