Still the Problem of this forum losing carriage returns.

I am still having the problem, that I write a post with empty lines between paragraphs, for clarity, then when I click Submit, or even Preview, all carriage returns have been stripped out, and my post looks like one run-on paragraph, difficult to read.Once after reporting the problem it seemed to have been fixed, and the posts appeared as I wrote them. (I had not changed any settings.) But then the next day the problem re-occurred, and is still happening nowRunning WinXpsp3 on this computer, and Firefox 19.02.Is it a bug in this system, that needs to be repaired again? Or something about my FF settings, or settings for this forum? (I write to other forums as well, but only have that problem here on eightforums). As requested I will do a screenshot of this post before I post it, and if it appears without the line spaces, I will attach the screen shot to a follow-up post. Thank you.

OK, it came out bad again, so I attach two screenshots.Post1.jpg is of the OP of this thread, the previous post, before I posted it.Post2.jpg is of a post I made in another thread today. The picture is again how it looked before I posted it. You can see how it came out in that thread at: http://www.eightforums.com/network-...-through-peer-peer-connection.html#post212224 Interesting, that in the OP of that other thread, also by me, the line spaces appeared. That was the day when the problem appeared to be fixed, although it later reappeared. This is now the fifth paragraph of this post, but it will likely appear again as a run-on mess. I hope this can be fixed soon, as I like these forums, and would like my posts to be comprehensible. Thank you.

Probably won't help. And, it would not be a perfect solution. But, try doing two returns between paragraphs. You also could do a return, type a "."; and then do a second return. Also, not a perfect solution, but it might be OK until you can figure out what the problem is.

Must admit I don't know why it's happening. Just to check - are you typing direct into the Forum or pasting it from somewhere else (eg. Wordpad or something)?

One thing to try - go to the General Settings here
http://www.eightforums.com/profile.php?do=editoptions
At the bottom of the page, try changing the Message Editor Interface to "Standard Editor - Extra Formatting Controls" (if it isn't already). It isn't so WYSIWYG (you see characters and so on), but I'm interested to know if it makes a difference?

Thanks for all the replies.Znod, I always do two carriage returns between paragraphs, as that is necessary for the empty line. I just did three carriage returns (three presses of enter key) between this and the previous sentence, and see if that works. I doubt it will..This time I typed the period you suggested in the empty line. My guess is, it will just make two periods at the end of the previous sentence. No, I am not pasting from another program, but typing directly in the reply box. It doesn't matter if quick or advanced, same problem occurs. In fact, if I start typing in Quick Reply box, then click "Go Advanced", the carriage returns are stripped out in my already-typed text in the Advanced box..Although I welcome any such suggestions to try, I hope the admins here are also looking at the board setup. What settings have they been changing lately. No settings have changed on my end, other than updating Firefox. In another thread, someone else reported having this same problem. I used to write to this board without the problem, it only has occured recently. And one day, after I reported it, later that day or the next day I could post normally, without the problem. But then by the next day, messed up again. I post in a lot of Internet forums, and this problem only occurs on eightforums.com..David, I will try your suggestion later..Thank you.I don't think only my setup should only be looked at, as

Changed to standard editor, as you suggested, David, although I always prefer WYSIWYG.

Two carriage returns before this sentence, let's see if that works.

For further experimentation, I unchecked under "Miscellaneous Options" below "Automatically Parse Links in Text", and "Automatically Retrieve titles from external links".

That seems to have worked!

I will now re-check those two "Miscellaneous Options", just to find out what change did it.

Yes, the change to Standard Editor was it, so I will stick with that, although it allows me no formatting, as I don't know the formatting codes, and don't want to mess with them.

I would still suggest the admins try to figure out what was going on, why I had the problem lately with the default enhanced editor.

Thanks, Dave!

For info you can still format things. Select the text to format, then use the toolbar buttons above to insert formatting (you get more options in the "Advanced" editor). A couple of shortcut keys (Crtrl-B for Bold) work as well. A good trick is to use the Preview Post option to see how it looks before posting.

I'm afraid I've no idea what your original problem was and why it didn't work in the WYSIWYG mode. :(

There is quite a few bugs in the forum editor, this should be fixed in the latest version of the forum software which hopefully is due in the next few weeks.
