Solved Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Mine was a motherboard fault. At worst, yours could be the same, at best, drivers? USB faulty? Have you gone into Device Manager and looked for the offending USB? Try to uninstall it and then re-start PC/Laptop and see if windows still finds a fault. Other than what I have suggested, could...

Deleted Kaspersky & Say No to Norton

Thanks guys for your input. Went to Revo Uninstaller and found Ralink something or other and uninstalled it, restarted laptop, all OK now, no show of WLAN IEE802.11 not exist. Must have been something I did when downloading HP Updates. Thanks again for your input

Deleted Kaspersky & Say No to Norton

Device Manager does not show any 'Exclamation' marks or any Wi-Fi card or LAN problems. Surfed the net and all I've come up with is "Uninstall", "Update" etc. and to no avail still there. In the box, when I click the WLAN not exist, it asks setup or exit. Setup doesn't go anywhere so I just...

Deleted Kaspersky & Say No to Norton

Vipre Internet Security, Malware Bytes Pro, PrivaZer, CryptoProtect and Browser Protect make me feel safer surfing and downloading. You might say I am going over the top  BUT, the feeling of safe keeps those nagging who or what is trying to get into my PC. I especially like, when I go...

wifi doesn't have a valid ip configuration (Limited)

I know I have jumped into the middle of your post, but I had a similar problem this morning, 09/03/2014. I tried everything, checked the software, checked connections internally and still had the same "Wi-Fi doesn't have an ip config". In the end I went to HP's website and downloaded both the...

Font size increases/decreases when moving cursor with touc

Impressed with where you live. I live out in the sticks, as we call it in the UK, in the countryside. I might add the Green Part of Essex. I am seriously thinking of migrating over to Triumph, a Thunderbird LT. Just did it again, font changed from 100% to 75%. This only happens now when I...

Font size increases/decreases when moving cursor with touc

Much appreciated for that link 'caperjack', and of course 'Brink', I think that has cured it. The only thing that has happened when 'sliding' across this page and the link the font went down to 95%. I will try and teach myself to be gentle when moving the cursor across pages. Like your...

Font size increases/decreases when moving cursor with touc

I have looked through the forum for tips on my minor problem and I hope I can explain what is happening. Whenever or whatever web page I am viewing and I slide the 'touchpad' mouse pointer/cursor across the page the font sometimes increases or decreases in size, i,e, from 100% to 105% or 150%...

Update to 8.1 went without a hitch apart from AV

Hi guys, Just a head's up :) No problems. I followed Brink's way of updating to Windows 8.1 +, (used Windows Upgrade Assistant), and everything went like clockwork apart from my AV. Needed to uninstall and install 8.1 version, the Firewall showed 'ERROR', after a new install of my AV...

Wifi seems fine but isn't. What's wrong?

Was the Wi-Fi card pre-installed + drivers, or did you install the card? If you installed the card and drivers try re-seating the card uninstall the drivers and start over. You could also check Microsoft Forums faq's for help with 8.1.

Wifi seems fine but isn't. What's wrong?

Welcome Nephatiu, Can I suggest you look at Brink's Tutorial Wi-Fi - Turn On and Off in Windows 8 and 8.1 on a pc. This might help, or wait for a network expert to answer your question.

    Small, fast and enhanced coverage.

I completely agree with what your saying but, when you have that sort of signal you stand the risk of your broadband being high jacked and used by unscrupulous hackers and other users. I also have 'Homeplugs' and a TP Link TL-WA850RE Extender Wi-Fi being fed from a TP Link TD-W8980 router. I...

    Small, fast and enhanced coverage.

Hello, I thought this might be of interest. I have just bought a ' Wireless Bolse N300 High Gain USB Adapter', to extend my Wi-Fi coverage to other parts of my home. I can highly recommend this USB adapter for extra Wireless coverage. If, where you need wireless and there is not a spare...

Solved Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

I am a happy bunny now. Received my laptop, back, yesterday at 17:45 all repaired and working, but with Windows 8. Apparently 'Motherboard' fault. Am yet to try the USB 3.0 socket but will do over the weekend. I have apologised to HP for my speedy email quoting S.O.G.A. I thought they were...

Solved Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Just downloaded, onto the desktop, my HP Pavilion Service Guide, and it is quite explicit for changing drives, WLAN module, optical drive and memory. 126 pages to print out though all I need are the replace/repair pages. When the laptop does come back, (repaired I hope) I will look into...

Solved Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Much appreciated, alphanumeric, I am in the process of getting a spare external drive, for backup on my main PC, and my local Staples have a sale on. SSD's aren't that expensive and as you say, work a lot quieter, faster and draw less current/heat. At present just working out prices and...

Solved Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Thanks for that MasterChief. I will take that on board. I still haven't got round to buying a retail version of 8.1, but I will when the guarantee runs out. I am still wondering what else they found, because everything worked OK apart from the USB socket, I'll just wait and see.

Hi again all, The latest in the 'saga', "Unknown USB Device". Apparently I will not be getting my laptop back Thursday 20th, 'Expert Engineer', their words, is repairing it. Looks more than Windows 8.1 driver problems, really missing it at the moment  Still if turns out as good as the...
