So i was wondering that in windows 7, gadgets and startup items load immediately after getting to desktop. But in 8.1, half the start up items loaded immediately, and other half (including gadgets/touchpad driver) loaded after a delay of about 10 seconds. Thanks to this trick, everything loads...

I have driver 15.4.1.1, dated 23 Jan 2013. This is the default driver on a Windows 8.1 update 3 ISO based install. Since it is working fine, i haven't tried to update it to 16.11 yet. :) Should I?

Have 33 updates preintegrated. ISO=en_windows_8.1_enterprise_with_update_x64_dvd_6054382 And still there are 37 more updates to be installed in windows update (about 800MB).

I got 16GB just for the heck of it back in 2011 when DDR3 was going dirt cheap. OS barely uses 2GB for itself, rest all depends on the apps you use. So most of my RAM is used for caching only. Only time i have seen system using 8GB+ RAM is while installing 200 updates in one go on windows 7...

Just installed about 100 updates on 8.1 and they took about 7GB space. But soon after i was done with installation, "System Modules Installer Worker" became active again in task manager. This time it wasn't checking for/installing any updates. It was cleaning up and i didn't touch disk cleanup...

It's about peace of mind too. Security is the reason many are running 8.1. Else you could even install Win 7 SP1 and turn updates off, and it'll keep on working just fine. No surprise there.

can't blame microsoft for trying to make OS more secure/better. :) After a fresh install i leave the system on updating over night. No biggie.. (have 2MBps line)
