It may be easier to leave all of the permissions the same and use CMD line XCOPY. It may be more efficient if you get an external drive and make a restore point on it through your control panel.

Try using a Win8 recovery CD boot disc which should give you the options to open BIOS instead of going through the recovery process.

On your computer in Control Panel/Network.

You need to open the properties of your network connections/adapter and enable DHCP.

Have you tried unplugging the CMOS battery? That should reset all of the BIOS settings to DEFAULT.
