    While the Seattle Times article is worth a read, nothing in there is (obviously) a reliable indicator of pricing. And if one is looking for the Surface PRO, seems to be Ballmer was likely giving a range for the Surface RT.

    The whole point of the cited article is that "older" hardware can't or won't make the cut. Similar may well be true for "ancient" apps, as well. The important thing before any upgared is always to check for hardware & software compatibility. That's always been the case.
