Thanks Brink, I did see that which sparked my interest in that there must be a way to run it from a batch file/exe. I just edited my post with this program, however i'd still love to be able to execute this action from my physical power button!

Without getting into the back story of how the Windows 8.1 power options are horrific for mobile devices..... I simply want to be able to run a batch file to call the command used to turn the display off but not sleep. Ideally i want to be able to assign this action to my physical power button...
