HDDs not seen after resume from sleep - W8.1

Well, the BIOS is 'old' - I also have version 2104 dated 2013 09 16. And that is the latest offered by ASUS. But I hadn't made any changes to the BIOS for a long time, certainly well before this issue surfaced. I wonder if the system is storing some flag when going into sleep that is misread...

HDDs not seen after resume from sleep - W8.1

I think your observation that Linux is OK resuming from S3 absolves the motherboard. When you say, "shut down cleanly" do you mean that you shut down the system completely, rather than going into sleep mode? A "Restart" or a complete shutdown, and a power button start from the "off" state has...

HDDs not seen after resume from sleep - W8.1

Thanks for the replies. I see The Doctor also has an ASUS mobo of the same family as mine, but a higher spec version. I have never used any Linux OS, so know nothing about them, but google sez that later versions do support S3 (suspend to RAM.) @ The Doctor, do your Linux installations support...

HDDs not seen after resume from sleep - W8.1

Yes, all sleep, hybrid sleep and hibernation options have been set to "Never" since this issue appeared. But without effect. It was my procedure to manually invoke sleep when I was finished with my computer for the day.

HDDs not seen after resume from sleep - W8.1

Over the last week or so my system does not find the 3 spinner HDDs on resuming from sleep. My searching has not found a description of a similar issue. My system has 2 SSDs, (both single partition, the Intel 520 has w8.1 and all apps, the other SSD has W10TP) 3 HDDs, and 2 optical drives. On...

Now ready for you: Windows 8.1 and the Windows Store

Upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Centre was slow, but eventually completed OK. I'd left it downloading overnight, and when I came back to the computer, it complained that it was unable to complete. I went back into the store and restarted the process - it picked up from where it had...

A question for the moderators Is it possible to move (or duplicate in) all posts regarding Windows 8.1 Preview in a sub-forum, or a new forum?

Start Screen - Metro Apps - Change Number of Rows in Windows 8

The manual registry edit still works in W8.1 Preview. My 1900x1200 monitors were limited to 6 rows, even after setting the "Show more tiles" slider was set to "Yes." After adding the Registry value I now have 7 rows.:geek:

Windows 8.1 preview ISO's to be released by Microsoft

I installed from the .iso to a separate SSD. So have a dual boot set-up with W8. All went well with the install. A couple of things since - I installed the Office 365 Home trial and set up Outlook for my email. Interesting that the Office 365 files are hidden (even when show hidden files is...

Dual Boot Windows 7 and Windows 8 - Delete Windows 7

RefreshImage was created and registered successfully. I read the tute -creating a Custom Recovery Image and the following discussion while the image was being created. While I think that booting from the (TechNet) DVD and performing the refresh from there will insert any missing Windows files...

Dual Boot Windows 7 and Windows 8 - Delete Windows 7

First, a little info about my system. It is a self-built desktop therefore it does NOT have a recovery partition. Components - ASUS P8Z77-V mobo (UEFI), Ivy Bridge i5 CPU, 16GB RAM, 224GB Intel SSD for OS, 3 x 1TB data HDDs. OS was W7 Ultimate. I dual booted to all the W8 previews, and RTM as...

Deleted network printer showing in Word 2013 print dialog

Running W8 Pro, with all applicable updates, and Office 2013 Pro. I have had to (twice) delete a network printer that has somehow been allocated an incorrect IP. Then re-install it. While the deleted printer does not appear in "Devices and Printers", two instances do in the Word 2013 print...

Microsoft puts Windows 8 users at risk with missing Flash update

If you look in the FlashInstall.log you'll see the reference to version 11.4.402.265. I don't understand the difference between that and the version shown on the property sheets. Giga Hawk showed that discrepancy in his property sheet captures which show the same details as I have.

Microsoft puts Windows 8 users at risk with missing Flash update

Microsoft puts Windows 8 users at risk with missing Flash update

After I deleted NPSWF64_11_4_402_265.dll FF complained that the plugin was missing, I re-installed it without issues, but it doesn't appear in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed or in the (now empty) Flash sub-folder. Glad that MS is about to issue upgrades - I wonder if that will occur if the the DLL...
