May not understand, may have made a mistake !

brummyfan, I am slow. Until today I didn't realize/think about being able to dump the Microsoft A/C. As mentioned I did so, finally. From your comments, as I don't know, I am no longer using the cloud in anyway? Does this mean that all the 8.1 application that I haven't been able to remove...

Hello, Just updated to 8.1. Still undecided. Specifically I somehow managed to get the admin apps shown on the was M$ account, now my local account start page. I can not figure out how to get rid of them. I hope someone with more experience can guide me. Also can not figure out how to put...

May not understand, may have made a mistake !

Hello and Woopy (partially)! exscentrix's link to Brink's tutorial worked perfect. It stated that I could no longer connect to the cloud as a local account, but all previous stuff was still there. Hopefully that will kill off a lot of cloud apps, I hope. The PC settings were not specifically...

May not understand, may have made a mistake !

Hello exscentric, Did not know that. Was always concerned about having a login with the same password as Microsoft Account. Will definitely try to hunt that down. The install to 8.1 tried to get me to make my admin account non-local. Also will look at the charm bar, many thanks!! glennc

May not understand, may have made a mistake !

I do use Macrium, and thanks. But the IIRC the Windows Recovery Disk offered options beyond just having a system image. I see that there is some kind of USB thing. What is the world coming too ???? :) glennc

    windows 8 scanning and repairing

I thought I was alone! I was going to do a backup to an external drive and it seemed to hang. Did scans, tried various backup programs. Finally decided to do a chkdsk, it took 9 hours IIRC. Now I have some old hardware, but at least it isn't just me. Sorry for you who also have an...

May not understand, may have made a mistake !

Hello, I have been using W8 on my secondary computer. It does not get that much use. So I really haven't kept up with developments or features of the 8.1 upgrade. I had set up W8 by removing all cloud application (ALL) and replacing them with computer based programs. Somehow I perceived that...

Extremely long backup times w/ Paragon Free for W8

Hello 4wd, Wow, those are good times. I noted that on the Window 8 machine I didn't have write caching on. I do not know how much that would have helped. Thanks for the comparison! glennc

    Unaccountable Windows Backup Folder!

Back again! That is certainly a Windows Backup folder as when I went to click to open it a Windows Backup Prompt came up asking me if I wanted to restore from it. I just don't know how it got there. The time is 7PM which is about 5 hours after I started running Reflect, and well before it...

    Unaccountable Windows Backup Folder!

As I have multiple backups using reflect of my W7 along the process of restoring, that folder contains those. During the Macrium Reflect System Image on the W8 machine, Reflect asked and created a W8Reflect folder in the Reflect folder automatically only asking my permission if it was okay. It...

    Unaccountable Windows Backup Folder!

Howdy my2cents, Here is the snip from the external drive. Notice the dates on the the Reflect folder which has a subfolder with the system image of my W8 machine that took 9 hours and the iconized "Ridgeway" folder. Stumped! Thanks glennc

    Unaccountable Windows Backup Folder!

Hello, I am having problems with system imaging my Windows 8 machine to an external hardrive via a usb (??) cable. First, as mentioned in another thread is the exceptionally long time. The external drive is a WD 1TB BTW. I have two older hardrives on the computer. Just installed the second...

Extremely long backup times w/ Paragon Free for W8

Good day jimbo45, Thanks again for your time! The separation of data and system, I do use on my Window 7 machine. Although I do it to two individual hard drives. On the Window 8 machine, and older MSI board with a dual core and two drives, I only backed up the one drive as I don't...

Extremely long backup times w/ Paragon Free for W8

Continuing issues! Well it took 7 hours to chkdsk the 1 TB WD external, via a External SATA Cable. Took IIRC 4 hours to do a Paragon 12 complex system image of about 190 GBs on two drives on the W7 Machine. So I did Reflect Free again on the W8 machine only imaging one drive of about 80 GBs...

Extremely long backup times w/ Paragon Free for W8

Hello jimbo45, Thank you for responding and for your information. I generally do a system image with everything, Boot and Data Drive, complex archive. Don't know why, you are the first that has mentioned an alternate scheme. In reference to the Window 8 backup onto a WD 1TB External, I tried...

Extremely long backup times w/ Paragon Free for W8

It turns out that that timing was deceptive and did change. It changed to 14 hours estimated for 53 GBs. It appears that it doesn't display as accurate. Tried Macrium Reflect for the same backup, about 14 hours, but at least it told you so within a minute or two. Going to give Windows Backup for...
