This PC - Add or Remove "Folders" in Windows 8.1

gmawet, thank you! I had the same thing, and may never have realized what was causing it. Brink, I think this would be worth adding to the original post. I was having the same issue, that basically if I dragged My Pictures to favorites instead of what's written above, every time I actually...

    Do you want Aero?

I very much liked what Aero had become in the Release Preview. I mean I'd change a couple things, like why is the close button pink for example. Stripping out the glass and blur though, oh my god you would have to replace it with something better and they absolutely haven't. It's hideous. I know...

My logic behind Microsoft's controversial decision: Removal of Start

Word, and I used that too, although I feel like this is where having fullsize visual cues comes into play as a good thing.

My logic behind Microsoft's controversial decision: Removal of Start

Like I said though, I didn't have a windows key until a week ago. Yes I've had them in the past, yes I'm well enough aware of what was possible in 7. This is the first time I'm really enjoying them though. Things were still impressively faster and more intuitive, even without one. In my book anyway.

My logic behind Microsoft's controversial decision: Removal of Start

I'm just speaking from experience personally. I have literally no idea what Microsoft is saying. I've been having considerable increases in how fast I'm using Metro. I think we're looking at the best implementation of meta/Win key shortcuts ever so to that end I have enthusiastically decided...

My logic behind Microsoft's controversial decision: Removal of Start

Because no pain no gain. It's faster! It is! I promise ;(

My logic behind Microsoft's controversial decision: Removal of Start

I don't know how people can take this mantra about tablets so seriously. Metro shouldn't change a thing if tablets never existed. The Start Menu is inferior at today's resolutions and in terms of visual elements that draw you in. This implementation encourages people to finally execute things...

Can Remote Desktop be made to work through just a switch?

No outside access. Everything I'm trying to do is across one network, at home.

Can Remote Desktop be made to work through just a switch?

So I clarified my intents... what now?

Is there a way to boot and start with the desktop instead of Metro?

Wow I forgot about this thread. Lots of haters, I still love and prefer Metro. This is just one thing I would change. Have there been any new possibilities from the Release Preview? New ideas?

Shared folders always accessible one way, go to sleep the other

I have two machines on Windows 8 x64. One runs headless and 24/7 just for downloads and has a new Intel ethernet card while my PC uses on-board. For some reason the rdp connection is always available to me, but if a couple hours or sometimes just a while should pass without me accessing the...

Can Remote Desktop be made to work through just a switch?

Verizon replaced my 100 megabit router with a gigabit model (Actiontec MI424WR Rev. I) that's been out for about a month. Something about it has added considerable choppiness to remote sessions as well as poor image quality due to compression, in an effort to lighten the load I'm sure. The...

Can Remote Desktop be made to work through just a switch?

I noticed Remote Desktop currently seems to depend on reaching my Verizon gigabit router and was just wondering, is it even possible to have it operate off a switch alone? I'd also like to have it avoid the router even when it's on the network.

Windows 8 Keyboard Shortcut Keys List

Is there a shortcut for "all apps" without the search? I use win+Q often, but end up taking the additional step of closing search half the time. Something fast should be the same as left click/win+z and pressing all apps.

8 things Microsoft needs to do to save Windows 8

Item 3 is wrong, because whether it's a 1024x600 netbook or a 2560x1600 30 inch monitor, the new Start Menu is faster. Nobody will even try to adapt if they put the training wheels on. I wouldn't be surprised to see noobs getting around faster than vets if this is enabled.

Solved How to remove the Homegroup icon in Windows 8?

When I opened it, it was already under the impression homegroup was disabled. I'm sure because according to Windows 7 spec it was. I reenabled and redisabled to no avail. I'll keep playing with it, but I think 8's going to require its own solution. Strange that it works *sometimes*, although...

Solved How to remove the Homegroup icon in Windows 8?

I think it copies the value and ownership permissions to those keys automatically, at least after restart. I've tried this word for word on two installs, a 32-bit and 64-bit and on both of them Homegroup just sticks around. It doesn't really make sense.

Solved How to remove the Homegroup icon in Windows 8?

The Windows 7 method for removing the homegroup icon from the navigation pain doesn't seem to work, even though the extremely similar method for the libraries icon does. Has anyone managed to remove it? I don't feel like disabling homegroups, Microsoft made setting up a network too annoying...

Solved Is it still possible to specify the resolution of a remote desktop

Or you can just edit a couple lines in notepad! In that case you could seamlessly view 2560x1440 on a 1024x600 netbook, for instance, without having to fix all the windows and icons later. Of course I really go 1366x768 and use Sizer to fix the window-wreckage in that scenario. 2560x1440 is...

Solved Is it still possible to specify the resolution of a remote desktop

Usually the resolution needed and the resolutions listed by default are two different things, if you don't want to wreck the other computer's desktop. You can enter the resolution by hand.
