    Can't run Microsoft's Flight Simuilator 9 on Windows 8.1

It's not due to the Microsoft update which stops old SecuROM & Safedisc games from launching is it. http://www.eightforums.com/gaming/72742-m-s-flight-sim-9-suddenly-requires-privileges.html

M.S. Flight Sim 9 suddenly requires privileges.

It's because of the Windows Update KB3086255. Before running the game open CMD, Start > Type CMD > Right Click > Run As Administrator. Enter the command sc start secdrv & then try launching the game again, it should work. If you're running Windows 10 however there's no workaround.

    old games are very slow

Yes Frans that is a useful utility which can get round the issue for some games, there's certain things it doesn't work with though. As always thanks Ralf. When the next version of Windows 10 comes out (Apparently next week) I'll upgrade & also post back on the Microsoft thread.

    old games are very slow

Ralf, have you tested any of the more recent builds or are you no longer in the insider programme. I'm still running the RTM build as I'll wait for the update to be released officially. There is definitely some improvement over Windows 8 but it's not quite there yet, some games are fine others...

    old games are very slow

You're right, I play these games with the frame limiter ON and just noticed that it doesn't have the annoying Micro Stutter that Windows 8.0/8.1 had but it seems that it's still lower than it should be with the frame limiter on. There is definitely some progress though as the games seemed to run...

    old games are very slow

It seems that any issues with DirectX8 & older games running slow has been resolved in Windows 10. GTA III, VC etc no longer has the weird stuttering when the frame limiter is switched on. DirectDraw games themselves appear to still have the same issue. Some older games installed from discs no...

No the free offering is only for one year. The fact is, Windows 8 has a support schedule which they should be following and Windows 10 does not count as a service pack.

-= WZor.Net =- - Windows 10 Insider Preview Release Notes: Build 10163.0.150630-1700 Yes, been confusing the two as it's problem which seems to affect anything DirectX8 or lower. Good idea however this issue affects Windows 8 as well and they should really be backporting these fixes once...

    old games are very slow

I tried some DirectDraw games on build 10162, GTA III & Midtown Madness 2 and they wouldn't even launch. There were some leaked release notes for 10163 which state that an issue with full screen Direct3D 8 games not launching has been resolved so it looks like it could be a work in progress...

    old games are very slow

Has anyone tried DirectDraw gaming in Windows 10 Build 10158/10159? I can't seem to get the update here, looks like it's only for the en-us version.

    old games are very slow

Ralf - That's good it seems they must be working on it. So when I find a decent Windows Media Centre replacement I can upgrade to Windows 10. As for certain games running windowed maybe it's compatibility stuff they're testing at the moment. Have you tried installing the latest DirectX Redist...

I don't know if any of you guys have seen this reply from a guy called Kevin C on Ralf's Feedback thread: https://windows.uservoice.com/forums/265757-windows-feature-suggestions/suggestions/6608422-fix-the-frame-rate-issue-that-has-been-in-since-wi He's also replied on the Microsoft Answers...

Thanks Ralf. I wonder if they even know how to fix it.

    old games are very slow

Windows 10 build 10041 has been released. Anyone tested the DirectDraw games with it yet? I have signed up to Twitter especially to ask Gabe Aul but he never replied. Too busy replying to posts like "When is the next build going to be out" etc.

That's what I thought but obviously trying to amalgamate 2 different GUIs is more important than fixing issues like this.

    old games are very slow

Still the same in the latest Windows 10 build. They're not going to fix it are they, looks like it's Windows 7 indefinitely. Stupid really but there you go.

You're welcome madmax. I wonder if it'll be fixed in this upcoming Windows 10 Consumer Preview. Be interesting to find out if they're fixing real bugs or just screwing around with the GUI, Cortana and other things which aren't integral to the running of the OS.

    old games are very slow

That's probably DOSBox which is an emulator for DOS games. This is not the problem we're having and if it was just DOS Games then we'd be able to sort it by changing the DOSBox settings. DOS games are not an issue. This is specifically a problem with Windows based DirectDraw games and there is...

GPUs are in no way the issue with this particular bug now so it must not be involved thus confusing the issue. There are workarounds which involve changing some of the DirectX parameters as explained here Windows 8 strange things and 3d faster in window. The workaround makes the games run much...

This comment has absolutely no relevance to this topic at all. It's comments like this which obscure real issues reported in Windows through lack of understanding of the original issue.
