    Blocking GPU fan intentionally

Well, dust is a problem regardless of whether you use one or two fans. Besides, that'll be just a temporary solution until I replace/grease the shaft or get another cooling. My primary concern is whether there are some safety functions in the GPU/OS drivers that shut down the PC upon detecting...

    Blocking GPU fan intentionally

This isn't really related that much to Windows itself, but I was thinking maybe Windows has some built-in safety features, and that you - well - just help me out anyway. I'm having issues with one of my GPU's fans (it features a dual-fan cooling) and will have to fix it soon. The problem is...

    Skype strains HDD

All the old versions were pulled out form the server. Pity.

    Skype strains HDD

Yeah, I did, with HD Tune. It indicated no problems (at least no disk errors, but write/load speed were and are ok).

    Skype strains HDD

Thanks. Unfortunatley, this didn't work - the HDD is still making the same noise, which suggests it's loading something off the system partition.

    Skype strains HDD

Hello, I installed Skype on a fresh Windows 8 and it strains my HDD every time it's on; the drive just keeps making "loading noises" at a very regular short interval. I tried shutting just the Skype updater and leaving Skype on, but that didn't fix it. Any ideas about the reason? I didn't...

    0xC004F012 after "disk repair"

Ok, so I burned my SSD some hour before trying the formatting (apparently short-circuit when trying to plug an LCD... wtf). Thank FSM I had done backup, lol. Either way, the Win 8 seems fully operational now on my spare HDD with the same license key, so the key certainly wasn't an issue here...

    0xC004F012 after "disk repair"

I set the task to run on highest priority and constantly. Rebooted the PC and the system performed HDD autorepair again. I don't even know if this is related, I don't know if it's just a coincidence, but what I know is that I'm gonna have to do a f****g disk formatting this weekend. Thanks...

    0xC004F012 after "disk repair"

How do you access the SvcRestartTask? Through the Task Scheduler? I did Google it but can't find anything. Pardon my ignorance but I've never done that before. And my Polish version of the OS doesn't help. And what do you mean a restore from the setup disk? The Windows installer CD? I did try...

    0xC004F012 after "disk repair"

I tried a restore, didn't help - the restore point was too late... I posted a screenshot in my previous comment with the status of my sppsvc registry - could you tell me which item am I supposed to change?

    0xC004F012 after "disk repair"

Restore point? Do these set up automatically? I don't think I ever enabled one. Anyway, I've been trying to see if I can do a registry fix suggested somewhere here: Solved SPPSVC service not running as well as activating Windows, but I can't find...

    0xC004F012 after "disk repair"

Ok, so I'm getting the same error as the guy in the topic.. Error 5, access denied. The run type (or whatever - I have a Polish version of the OS) says "Automatic (delayed start, freed/released ((?)) start). Does that mean that the dreaded HDD formatting is my last resort?

    0xC004F012 after "disk repair"

OK, silly me. So, the report file indicates an error 0x80070426 which stands for "service disabled".

    It doesn't work (see attachment).

Thanks for the info. Find attached the report in .txt.

    0xC004F012 after "disk repair"

Thanks for your input. Unfortunately this didn't work. The second command did claim to have repaired something, but the problem persists. Attaching diag report. Btw. the 8.1 I'm running is an upgrade from Win 7. By no means am I giving up yet, but if I bought a valid 8.1 full unlock key from...

    0xC004F012 after "disk repair"

Hello and welcome, Today my beloved Win 8.1 gave me a surprising license deactivation, meaning the license just suddenly became void despite working properly for some few months. I suspect two reasons: - I changed GPU the day before (but it's not like the problem occurred right after...

The .exe file for Charms -> Shutdown button

Thanks a lot. I didn't know you could alter the cmd window size in the batch file' properties. I actually just reduced it down to the minimum value and it's perfectly enough to me.

The .exe file for Charms -> Shutdown button

Right. That was a stupid question. I wonder then if there's any way to avoid the cmd screen appearing right before shutdown.

The .exe file for Charms -> Shutdown button

Yeah, it was, thanks! I figured that out myself in the meantime. Now, does anyone know the system .exe for this? Maybe I'm picky, but although launching the shortcut made from the above command does work, it pops up the cmd window for half a second before shutting the PC down. It looks kinda...
