Desktop worked the same way with repair install. Took a long time even on an SSD but worked. I have seen where folks have noted that they installed with a generic key then used their OEM - might be worth a try?

I wonder if one of the generic keys would work for the install and the OEM key for the activation.

Good news, COMPUTIAC: the repair install worked! I followed these instructions: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/26095-repair-install-windows-8-a.html It took a while for all the updates to come through but I ran all of them before the dreaded 800+Mb one that was the main problem.

Dang - no OEM key huh .... I wonder how you get what you need then for that. Contact Microsoft or Lenovo (or both)? Repair install removed all Windows Updates (as expected) so I am in the process of carefully applying updates now.
