I beg to differ; I did a system image about a month ago, and was messing around installing "7" on this laptop. Had some issues so I inserted the "8.1" disc and did a full system recovery (great test) and it worked flawlessly.

I guess it really wasn't a big deal as deals go, but it just irked me to no end that options weren't made available by Microsoft. Mind you, 8.1 did address some issues that were ugly.

Got it done; wasn't all that hard; just needed the two files from my Windows 7 Desktop, and the correct procedure. It was just one of those little things that bugged me.

I have the "7" DVD so will give it a try. I will look for the procedure. Thanks.

Final broadcast; issue solved Driver that solved the final issue was one for Windows 7. Now I get to actually learn 8.1. Simple things like opening folders full screen, etc. Thanks for the help.

It occured to me this morning that I should hook up to a LAN locally and do all the updates. it may even add the missing drivers.

I have only a local account, and i built a microsoft account; neither have admin access; so, I am in trouble; may try calling Dell to see if they would receive the HD by mail and re-image it. i wonder it there is some piece of aftermarket software that would help.

update Took about six hours to re-image the drive. due to option I chose, I am sitting with ME as the only user with a local account; before I screw it up, can I change my account to administrator without switching to a microsoft account. can't do much right now as I am non admin.
